S bar F Scout Ranch, located in the rolling hills of Southeast Missouri, consists of 5,200 acres of forests, rocks, streams, bluffs, trails, and wildlife — all of which makes "The Ranch" a great place for summer camp. S bar F is home to four camps, all situated around 270-acre Nims Lake.
All Scouts will be required to have a completed BSA Health and Medical Form signed by the Scout's doctor with 12 months of the last day of camp. Share this file with troop leadership and we'll keep it on file for the year.
Download and review the What to Bring to Summer Camp list.
Have your Scout review his camp schedule and determine if there are any merit badge prerequisites he should complete before heading to camp.
Please do not overpack. Stick to the Camp Packing List but remember there are a couple of MUST-bring items:
Water bottle — We'll be insisting Scouts carry one at all times to remain hydrated throughout the week.
Medications — Any medications your son may need MUST be given to the Scoutmaster in their original container, with the original labeling. This is BSA policy and it includes any over-the-counter medications such as Benadryl, Ibuprofen, etc. Medications will be locked up, stored away from Scouts, and distributed by an adult leader at the appropriate time.
One note about packing: Try to make sure your Scout's swimming suit, towel and/or swimming sandals are near the top of the bag. One of the first things we do upon arrival is change into swimming suits and take a swim test.
This is a friendly reminder: Scouts are not allowed to have electronic devices at camp (even the older Scouts). Adult leaders will have their phones and can be reached in an emergency. Phones discovered at camp will be confiscated and returned at the end of camp.
If you think of it, also consider sending your son mail at camp. Since the U.S. Mail is notoriously slow, it may not be a bad idea to send it a few days in advance. Your son's mailing address during his week at camp will be:
[Scout's Name], Troop 914
Camp Gamble
Weisman Campsite
S bar F Scout Ranch
Knob Lick, MO 63651
Mail is distributed each day to leaders at the daily adult leaders' meeting.
Each campsite features canvas tents on wooden platforms and room for additional tents on wooden floorboards. Each tent has 2 military style cots. Campsites all have potable water and latrines on site with ambient-temperature water showers attached. Sites are also equipped with picnic tables and canvas dining flies along with multiple fire rings.
Camp Gamble is a patrol-cooking camp where units prepare meals in their campsite.
During your camp tour, your troop will learn about their meal crew duties. These will include picking up the food at the commissary for each meal. These are the steps that are necessary to help ensure a smooth dining experience at each meal.
